Tonight is my last night living in Sydney. It’s funny how time flies like that. When I first arrived back here in March I was full of excitement for what was to come and my new life here; September 30th felt like an entire lifetime away. I’ve done so much in these past 6 months, despite spending most of my time stuck in a tiny back office being yelled at by people who think that $4000 bags are the be-all-and-end-all. I’ve made some amazing friends (including one who actually went to the same school at the same time as me but we’d never met before) and seen some amazing things.
The incredible beaches in this city are still a complete novelty, and whilst Bondi isn’t my favourite suburb, I will never get tired of sitting on the warm sand and realising where I am. Despite the stupid way the trains work (I will never get used to cities that don’t have a proper underground network), I’m scarred from working in luxury customer service and that I still can’t convert dollars into GBP in my head to figure out if something’s expensive or not, I’ve really enjoyed living this Aussie life and I can’t believe my time here is up.
Even though I’m coming back for a week in December it feels like I’m closing a major chapter of my life. Let’s hope I like Western Australia and New Zealand as much as I like this wonderful city.
